SWWTR Transit Housing


The Transit House, developed as a prototype within the Small-scale Living project (Provincie Vlaams-Brabant), is a compact mobile housing module measuring 4.5 x 13 m that meets the needs of different, changing residents. Three of the completed modules are currently being used as temporary housing on a campsite in Boortmeerbeek. The relatively high ceiling height ensures maximum natural light and a pleasant spatial experience. The quality of life is further enhanced by a simple, well thought-out layout (living and sleeping areas separated by a 'wet' room) and a functional, detailed interior (storage space, etc.). The module is constructed from sustainable materials (wood structure, fibre cement, blown-in glass wool, ...) and assembled in the workshop. Moreover, water and energy flows are handled in a circular manner. Rainwater is recovered in a rainwater tank in the house and reused for flushing toilets. The modules are equipped with an integrated heat pump that provides ventilation D, DHW and heating. Batteries powered by PV panels ensure a certain autonomy.
